iPod Turtle

Continuing one of my current themes, here's a TMNT hand, drawn and colored on an iPod Touch using Sketchbook Mobile.  I thought I could draw and ink something more substantial today, but being errand day, it was next to impossible. I was constantly bumping into little obstacles that took up the extra time I was counting on. So worked on this piece, bit by bit. Coloring is always fun. Doing this in public, folks would seemed to think I was busy "playing" some game. People fiddling with iPods and other mobile devices are usually taken for granted these days. If I had a sketchbook out, it would have been a different story.  I didn't get to draw much with pencil, but I got some ideas down for the piece I really want to do.  This was just something to keep me warmed up, and entertained.  I like how it turned out. It helped me pass the otherwise boring time, waiting in line. I hope you like it. Have a great art time!

  1. I just realized there's a cumulative effect here. All the interrupted sessions, and especially the zooming-in aspect of using a small screen, added up to unbalanced values, and lighting. Always looking at a portion of the picture is dangerous. I'll take this into consideration next time. But I still like it.

  2. I have a different approach. I zoom out and put big blobs of digital paint (on a separate layer), which I refine in detail. Starting at the detail level requires you have a good visual memory, and can picture the whole image while working zoomed in. I don't have that skill, so I work big to small instead.

  3. That is a good idea, and sounds very logical. I suppose the way I approached it, due to the interrupted sessions during running of errands, can have an adverse effect on remember the whole, and what details I was working on the last time, before the attendant or whomever it was at the time, interrupted to provide the service I was waiting for. (All done in micro sessions). I'll have to remember next time I try to create something in micro-sessions during errands. It's a very specific situation, and your suggestion sounds a lot better as an approach. Granted, I have to remember where I was, and my intent at the time.
Thanks Rene. I'll remember this next time.

  5. Thanks Sam! iPod drawing is another story altogether. It's like sculpting lines, but great fun to compose on the run, and to learn about color quickly. Even for the non-informed. LOL I got to get more digital on colors, but I like pencil and ink. I'll marry both soon enough (or more often, I should say). Thanks for the visit!
